Student Transition & Enrichment Program (STEP)

The Position:
Assistive Technology Instructor (Temporary Position)

As an integral team member of the STEP Summer program is the Assistive Technology Instructor. As the Assistive Technology Instructor your focus will be to organize and implement individualized course instruction in adaptive computer technology to students (age 16 and older). Provide and oversee the instruction necessary to accomplish each student's objectives. Work as a cooperative member of the Davidson Program for Independence instructional services team.

Lead Teacher (Temporary Position)

The only program of its kind in Southern California, Junior Blind's Student Transition & Enrichment Program (STEP) is designed to help teens and young adults identify areas of career interest and successfully transition to college or the workforce. In addition to learning skills for independent living, students develop work-readiness skills through individualized instruction, group seminars and internships opportunities that are matched to their interests, abilities and goals.

Children's Residential Program

The Position:
Residential Program Manager

The Children's Residential Program (CRP) serves the unique needs of children and youth, ages 5-21, which have varying levels of behavioral, emotional, medical and physical challenges. Client population includes RCL 12 Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) DCFS youth with mental health conditions. In a warm and loving home setting, children receive round-the-clock care, counseling, and education designed to help them reach their highest level of independence.

Junior Blind's Davidson Program for Independence is a comprehensive residential program designed to help adults who are blind or visually impaired. Through training in four core areas: Braille, Assistive Technology Skills, Orientation and Mobility, and Independent Living Skills, such as cooking, cleaning and money management, graduates of the program attain the skills to find employment and enjoy productive and fulfilling lives in their homes, communities and places of work.

Infant & Early Childhood Program

The Position:
Infant & Early Childhood Specialist (Full-Time)

Available Areas:
Ventura County area

Touching more lives is not only one of our values, but something we do every day. Our Infant & Early Childhood Program provides a wide range of services for children, birth to 6 years, with visual impairments and other disabilities through-out Southern and Central California. Milieu Counselor

In our continuing efforts to provide the best possible services, Junior Blind's group home initiative furthers our mission to helping children and adults who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled achieve independence. To aid us in this effort, The Adult Milieu Counselor will provide direct care for blind, visually impaired, emotionally disturbed and multi-disabled Adults ages 18-65. Job emphasis is centered on helping the Adult increase daily living skills, socialization, independence behavior management, and pre-vocational skills.

Group Home

The Position:
Group Home Coordinator

In our continuing efforts to provide the best possible services, Junior Blind's group home initiative furthers our mission to helping children and adults who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled achieve independence. To aid us in this effort, the Group Home Coordinator will provide program development, implementation of the program design for the residents, and management of staff. Job emphasis is centered on creating program activities to ensure an instructional training environment in order for the students to maintain and improve their independent living skills, orientation and mobility techniques, home management skills, and to fully participate in a well-rounded social, recreational program.

Medical

The Position:
Licensed Vocational Nurse

Available Shifts:
On-Call: Workdays vary, 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
On-Call: Workdays vary, 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Junior Blind's medical team ensures our medical services are maintained at the highest levels. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse, you will prepare and administer medications, notify student's attending/alternate physician, as well as the student's legal guardian/representative, when the student becomes ill or injured. You will develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel and departments to assure the medical services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the students.

The Student Transition & Enrichment Program concentrates on developing work-readiness skills through individualized instruction, group seminars and activities, and an internship work experience matched to a student's identified strengths and interests.

The Position:
Job Coach (Temporary Position)

STEP is a two, three-week summer program for young adults who are 16-22 years old who are blind or visually impaired. The program offers its students career exploration skills, internship-work experience, independent living skills, and much more.
