The Department:
Children's Residential Program
The Position:
Family Partner (Full-Time)
An important component to the mental health services is family support. As the Family Partner, you will provide community resource support and emotional support for Junior Blind families receiving DMH services. The Family Partner will support families as a peer with similar experiences.
You will achieve this by acting as a liaison with families and providers, link parents with other parents in the community to reduce isolation that occurs when parenting a child with complex needs, assist and mentor families in navigating the Los Angeles County System of Care services: behavioral health, special education, child welfare, and juvenile justice, and empower parents to develop goals and implement personal and family action plans, as well as completing progress reports.
You will also establish and maintain positive and effective working relationship with internal staff and external resources, educate professionals and the general public about children and youth with behavioral and emotional challenges, and distribute information about youth mental health issues to the community.
Requirements:
- Must be a primary caregiver of a child or immediate family member who is now or has in the past received services from a public child-serving agency, i.e. mental health, social services, and/or juvenile probation.
- High school diploma or equivalency, together with any combination of education, training, and experience. Relevant college course work may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience navigating one or more child-serving agencies.
