Highlights from Recent Activities at Junior Blind

Junior Blind President Recognized as Community Leadership Achiever
Miki Jordan, President and CEO of Junior Blind, was recently named the first recipient of the Community Leadership Achiever Award. The award was presented by the Association of Multicultural Concerns, a special interest affiliate of the California Council of the Blind. "With so many worthy leaders in the vision loss community, I am truly grateful and humbled by this recognition," says Jordan.

New Vice President of Clinical and Regional Services
We are pleased to announce that Barry Feinberg, L.C.S.W. was recently appointed as Junior Blind's Vice President of Clinical and Regional Services. Barry has more than thirty years of experience working with child welfare and mental health agencies and has held several executive level management positions. In his role, he is responsible for organizing and supporting our Children's Residential Program, nursing and social services. He is also responsible for leading a number of strategic initiatives and developing programming for mental health services for our community and campus programs.

Junior Blind Joins Forces with the National Industries for the Blind
With the unemployment rates for individuals with disabilities being far above the national average for the general population, Junior Blind is more committed than ever to prepare our students to enter the workforce. In these efforts, Junior Blind has partnered with the National Industries for the Blind (NIB) to identify sustainable business models where blind or visually impaired individuals can become employed, such as call centers or distribution facilities.

Professional Development Day Draws Partners, Colleagues and Community Members to Junior Blind
On Thursday, November 3rd, Junior Blind hosted its annual Professional Development Day: New Approaches to Longstanding Challenges. Formerly known as our Open House, this free event provided attendees the opportunity to learn and connect. The day featured resource tables, networking opportunities, tours of Junior Blind and workshops, including Multi-disciplinary Approaches to Mental Health Services Provided to Medically Complex Youth in DCFS Placement, Benefits of Using the Apple iPad in Helping Children with Visual Impairments and Multiple Disabilities Develop Communication Skills, Hands-on New and Updated Assistive Technology, What's New in Treatment for Eye/Vision Concerns, Teaching Cause and Effect: Learning with Adaptive Switches as a Prerequisite for Language Instruction and Abandonment of Assistive Technology in Visual Impairment Services.
